Abraham Awolich has a Masters degree in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He specialized in international development management and administration, public organizational management, human resource management, and public finance in developing countries. Abraham was a winner of the World Bank Development Marketplace grant competition for $200,000 in 2007 to build a high school in Southern Sudan. He was also awarded the Samuel Huntington Public Service Award by the National Grid after his graduation in 2006.

Adriana is a community cartographer, under-utilized space modifier, and urban lifestyle researcher. She teaches a course about the suburbanization of NYC at the Parsons School of Design and is the Research Director for CAPITAL B. Her projects explore extreme modes of domesticity and the relationship between shopping, the war on terror and freedom. Currently, she is investigating new shopping mall construction in Baghdad and exploring guerilla gardening projects for fenced-off grassy areas around public housing towers in NYC. She holds a B.A.

Alison Mariella Desir is currently pursuing her Masters in International Affairs, with a concentration in conflict and security, at The New School in New York City. As an undergraduate student at Columbia University, Alison majored in History and Latino Studies. She hopes to one day work abroad in Haiti, within the realm of sustainable development. She has traveled widely in recent years, Korea, Guatemala, Greece, Colombia, Haiti, and Ghana, to name a few countries she has visited. When Alison is not traveling, she enjoys singing and writing.

Anam graduated in 2010 from Smith College with a B.A in English language and literature and a minor in international relations. She is currently an intern at a management consulting firm that provides professional services to the non-profit community. Anam was also a 2009 summer intern for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and also served as a development intern for the World Policy Institute in New York. During the summer of 2008, Anam was an editorial intern for publisher W.W Norton & Co.

After working for around eight years as a computer programmer in investment banking I returned to university to study on the New School's Graduate Program in International Affairs (GPIA). I graduated in May 2008 and am now working in the Human Development Report Office at UNDP. I participated in the China (Kunming) IFP in Summer 2007. I wrote my thesis on microcredit. Whilst on the program I helped out a little with GPIA Student Government, I was also pleased to be able to organize a series of events about the Congo.

Anthony P. (Tony) Johnson is a preacher, activist, organizer, and writer. As a minister and consultant, he works with congregations, community organizations, and multifaith alliances on issues of racial and economic justice. Based at the Community Church of New York Unitarian Universalist, he also works with congregations in Meriden, Connecticut and Englewood, New Jersey. His intellectual work is at the intersection of theology, sociology, poetry, and the street.

Arie Amaya-Akkermans is a freelance writer, occasional journalist, & curious traveler of lesser known corners of modern European thought. An aficionado for global cinemas, minor literatures of Europe, and Mexican food, he writes a column for BikyaMasr (Egypt) on Arab cinema with bits of politics.

Carol-Ann Gleason is a communications and development specialist with a wildly critical edge and a commitment to facilitating new modes that inform, propel, and reflect transformative development on a global scale.

chris eberhardt, originally from Tacoma, Washington, is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology from The New School for Social Research. He holds an M.A. and B.A. in Sociology. He was a 2008 India China Institute Student Fellow. chris also helped found the organization imagining global asia in 2006, and has since played an integral role in developing public events and contributing bi-lingual blogs.

Colin Geraghty, born in Boston (USA), lives in France, and follows international security issues, especially South Asian affairs. He received a Masters in International Relations from the Institute of International and Strategic Relations in Paris (IRIS, Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques, www.iris-france.org), holds dual US-French citizenship, and brings a combination of European and American perspectives to the table.

Corrie Hulse is a graduate of the University of Washington with her Master's in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. While at the UW Graduate School, Corrie focused her studies on international affairs and political theory. She has recently completed her thesis entitled, "Shared Humanity: Protection and its Problems," exploring the Responsibility to Protect and the complicated intersection of human rights and international politics. During her time as a graduate student, Corrie worked as an intern with the United Nations Association, Greater Seattle Chapter.

Dan May is an avid reader, writer and homebrewer in Portland, Oregon. He writes weekly at A Pint for Dionysus (http://apintfordionysus.wordpress.com/) on the beer he makes and drinks, as well as the places he visits.

Daryn Cambridge is an experiential education and training consultant, an advisor for educational initiatives at the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, and an adjunct professor at American University where he teaches Education for Peace and Conflict Resolution and Education for International Development.

Born in Senegal, El Hadji came to United States in 1996 with a degree in civil engineering. After a twelve year career in the construction industry as an estimator, El Hadji started a social business focused on African development. He speaks English, French, Wolof (Senegal), and Bambara (Mali), and enjoys playing basketball, good food, and his family.  

Emmanuel Iduma was born in Akure, Nigeria. He obtained a degree in Law from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. His interests range widely, including web technology, digital art, visual art, and creative writing. Emmanuel works mainly as a writer of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, and has won awards and received recognition in each genre.

Erik Sanner is a visual artist living and working in New York City. Sanner’s work has recently been shown at The Danforth Museum (Massachusetts), the Brooklyn Arts Council Gallery (New York), and the Charles Thomas Contemporary (Los Angeles). Sanner was awarded Manhattan Community Arts Fund grants in 2007 and 2009. Upcoming exhibits include projects at LICHT FELD 11 (Basel, 9/11), the Courtauld Institute of Art (London, 1/12), and the Glyndor Gallery at Wave Hill (NY, 4/12). In Basel he is represented by LICHT FELD.

Evan Lewis is currently the Research Associate at WorldPublicOpinion.org, where he participates in the creation and analysis of international polls on issues, such as Human Rights, democracy, Climate Change, international institutions, diplomacy, and terrorism.  At the same time Evan has worked with the Program on International Policy Attitudes, which studies American attitudes on domestic and international issues, such as US involvement in Iraq, Trade, Non-proliferation, America’s role in the world, and Healthcare Policy.

I am a Ugandan. Born in Uganda. Grew up in Uganda. Studied in Uganda. An African. I also happen to be gay, and that small fact has come to change my life, and rule my destiny. From the time that I found that I was different, to the time I embraced and then wore with pride my difference. I started to write of my life to vent, something that I could not do in my country. Grace Kim immigrated to South Africa with her family at the age of two, and is currently studying at Universiteit Stellenbosch for her MA in English with a focus on marginalized South African narratives. She loves bubbles, likes strawberries, dislikes cigarette smoke, and hates the feeling of nausea. When she’s not going through existential crises about her writing, her drug of choice is poetry and has had some of her work published by local journals and publications. Writing reviews is a new adventure for her. 

Jeremy Worthington is a graduate of the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University. He has held internships in the U.S. House of Representatives and the European Central Bank. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe and South America and speaks fluent French and Spanish. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

JK Fowler is a freelance writer and audio engineer currently living in Brooklyn, NY.

John Schellhase is a returned Peace Corps volunteer who served in the Philippines. During his twenty-seven month assignment, John taught English and education courses at the University of Antique, led HIV/AIDS prevention seminars, and conducted professional development trainings for Filipino teachers. He received a B.A. with a double-major in English and Classical Studies from the University of Arkansas in 2006. In the fall of 2011, he will begin an M.S. in Global Affairs at New York University.

Jonathan David Amid was born in Israel and moved to South Africa at the age of four. He is currently pursuing a Masters in English Literature at Stellenbosch University.

Karl Fotovat studies and teaches philosophy and psychoanalysis in New York. He represses literary aspirations, runs a nonprofit prevarication organization for the wealthy, helps young ladies cross the street, and wavers between sardonicism and misanthropy.

Kavitha Rajagopalan is a writer and policy analyst. As a senior fellow at the World Policy Institute, she has written and lectured widely on global migration, and taught courses at NYU's Center for Global Affairs. She has worked as a consultant for financial services and social justice organizations, and as a journalist in the U.S., Germany and India.

Laura Rodríguez Arias is journalist, focusing on culture, politics and society for numerous online publications. Previously she worked for several print publications in Spain, and brought to fruition a cultural television program. Laura now lives in Uruguay where she is earning her Master’s in Latin American studies.

Lauren Young is currently a research assistant looking at governance and private sector investment in Africa at the Center for Global Development. Lauren joins CGD from Monrovia where she worked for the past year in Liberia facilitating projects related to returnee reintegration as a Grants Manager for the American Refugee Committee. She graduated from Stanford University with a BA in International Relations and honors in International Security Studies.

Lisa M. Allen holds a B.A. in History from the University of Texas at Austin and an MSc in the History of International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science.  She is currently enrolled in the Terrorism Studies Certificate Program through the University of St. Andrews, and is a Terrorism Blogger for the Foreign Policy Association. She currently lives and works in Washington, D.C.

M. Junaid Levesque-Alam, a Foreign Policy In Focus contributor, lives in New York. He has been published in several outlets, including Altmuslim.com, Antiwar.com, and The Nation's website. He writes about America and Islam on his website, Crossing the Crescent.
