Occupy Wall Street: A Small but Crucial Victory

Friday, October 14, 2011

I barely slept a wink last night, so pre-occupied was I about the potential for violent clashes at Liberty Plaza, the epicenter of the Occupy Wall Street movement. All day yesterday and through the night, occupiers prepared for a potential forced eviction from their newly established community, as suggested by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. In response, occupiers took control of the situation by cleaning up their occupied zone and issuing a call to action for all supporters to meet at the square no later than 6:00 am, one hour before the proposed eviction time.

Thousands arrived.

Here is the announcement at this morning's General Assembly meeting, and the jubilee that followed this small - but crucial - victory.

Wow, this morning was beautiful! Liberty Park at 5:30 AM was packed with peaceful occupiers. There is a call for continued occupation. It was an amazing morning. Occupy everything! Larisa

It was great to see it for myself. I can now say that I support this movement and want to be part of it!
