Sunday, March 21, 2010

Seen on nametags at Let Forum 2010—Places: Brooklyn, NY; Oak Park, IL; Essex, CT; Bloomington, IL; Boise, ID; Washington, DC; Philadelphia; Canada… Affiliations: Socialist Appeal, WBAI, Hive Radio, Brecht Forum, Dissent, Verso, Haymarket Books, Revolution, AK Press, The World Can’t Wait, The Mantle (of course!), Z Magazine.

Seen: Democracy Now cameras. A man in hospital gown and fake plastic butt handing out fliers for a rally for free health care. Pamphleteers galore. Jazz musician Abby Smith.

Heard: Danny Schechter telling me of an interview he conducted with Jon Lennon, with the microphone unplugged.

Heard: Dred Scott lamenting the crazy name-calling of Congress members in the halls of Congress by Tea Partiers yesterday.

Seen: Vegan meals served on biodegradable plates at Pace University.

Seen: About 50 tables of exhibitors, organizations, publishers, media and more at the book fair.

Heard: JK Fowler interviewing Kevin Alexander Gray, slipping and calling him, Kevin Alexander “the” Gray. Both laugh about it.

Heard: There are more young people here this year than last year.

Seeing and hearing: Line around two corners waiting to see Noam Chomsky, people inside who thought they were going to game the system getting pissed.

Waiting for Chomsky...
